Donald Trump posted a tweet on Twitter that changed an elderly’s couple life forever. In the tweet Trump stated, “HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN, taken together, have a real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine.” In this tweet, he is inquiring that those drugs may be the cure for the corona virus, COVID-19. Seeing this tweet, an Arizona man and his wife took it upon themselves to acquire chloroquine for self medication. Shortly after taking the medicine, approximately thirty-minutes, the couple experienced effects right away. The couple then went to Banner Health hospital. The hospital then stated that household products and other medications should not be taken to cure the virus. The man is now deceased and the wife is in critical condition.

What is hydroxychloroquine? Hydroxychloroquine is an United States approved treatment to malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used at aquariums as a fish tank cleaner. A doctor named Anthony Fauci, said that there had only been a little amount of evidence that proved that the drug might work against the virus. He also stated that there needed to be more research done to ensure that Trump’s theory was correct. If Trump had not told the world that this drug could be the cure without clarification from doctors or other health care providers, then this man death could have been prevented. If Trump would have delivered the message saying that there needed to be more testing or that you should not go and try to take the medication at home, then it may have went different. He should have said that you should see your doctor to make sure that it was safe to take the drug. I feel that Trump is under pressure trying to get the United States open as quick as possible. We see that the result of rushing is not good. Before he tries to tell the world about possible vaccines or cures he should make sure there is thorough testing behind it. In further conferences he needs to check up his facts with professional doctors or scientist. Making this kind of mistake could have caused many American lives, and although it is not good that it took one, we should be happy that it was the ONLY one. If someone feels that they have corona, they should not self medicate but yet go to the doctor, so they won’t have matters worst.

If I could go back in time to the beginning of the semester my message to myself would be to not procrastinate and enjoy my senior year while I can. When in school I tend to procrastinate ALOT! If I have an assignment to do I wait a few days before it is due to get it started. I’ve learned many times that doing work at the last minute can be be overwhelming but I can not seem to get myself to start on assignments early. In the beginning of the semester going back I would have made sure that I pushed my self hard and made sure that I started all my assignments early. Hopefully going into college I will learn this and use it. I know that if I do this in college than I will be more stressed than I was in high school. I would also give myself a few encouraging words about not giving up. So many times in high school I have found assignments to be too challenging so I do not do them. I know you’re thinking why would I, but sometimes the load of work is overwhelming. For example, I was taking chemistry 2 AP and every one in the class struggled. The teacher would give us homework but instead of asking for help I would just not do it.

Now looking back I see that my senior year is ruined and I took it for granted. Due to the corona virus I will not be having a high school graduation. I also can not do any of my senior activities such as the picnic. the senior trip, the senior brunch, or graduation parties. The whole year I complained and said that I could not wait until my senior year was over, now I want nothing more but to be able to go back and finish. I wish that I would have enjoyed my year while I can and not rushed it til its end. I wish that I was able to enjoy those bitter sweet memories of walking across the stage and hearing your family screaming your name with happiness. If I could do it all again I would.

As some may already know, most of America is shut down due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. The world should have many things that they should be worried about while going through this pandemic. One of the most pressing issues we should be debating is how the government is going to deal with the school and graduation issues. The seniors of this year should be able to still experience being able to graduate and do their senior activities. Corona has made this impossible for us due to social distancing. I feel that if this is all over before the end of the year the government should do something special for all seniors. Also, people should be finding out how the kids in low poverty families should be able to learn. Not everyone had internet and computer access at home or can even afford it. Although many schools are offering computers and internet to its students, not all schools are. We need to figure out how to help those kids so they can be able to go to the next grade. There are also kids who can only learn if they are in a classroom and not on a computer. Some schools are just throwing work at students without even teaching them the material.

Another issue that needs to be debated is how will the government get the United States back to normal after this is over. It may take the United States about a year or more to be able to make a full recovery. This means everything opening back up and people being able to travel without getting sick. Because of corona many people are out of work and after this they may not be guaranteed their jobs back. The government is offering unemployment checks but I am sure this can not last forever.

The last issue that should be debated is how healthcare facilities will be affected by this. Not only are they trying to keep their patients and doctors healthy despite a shortage of supplies, but many have canceled or postponed treatments, such as heart surgery or even cancer treatments. Those procedures typically account for much of their annual revenue, and without it, hospitals are laying off staff (temporarily, for now) to keep afloat. This means that health care workers will be over worked and some are left without jobs to care for their families. These people are putting their lives at risk everyday walking into work just to save someone else’s. When this is over no one knows if hospitals will be able to make the appropriate funds to stay open or pay their bills. This is for other places around the world too.

COVID-19 aka corona, is a newly founded virus that has affected many people all over America. Corona affects everyone in different ways. Although any one can get it, African American seem to be the leading deaths. The symptoms(common) of COVID-19 would be the same symptoms as the flu, such as a fever, tiredness, and dry coughs. Other symptoms may be shortness of breath, aches and pains, sore throat and very few people will report diarrhea, nausea or a runny nose. Those of older age or with medical conditions are at higher risk of catching corona and getting a serious illness. These conditions include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer. Healthcare facilities and also people in public are advising that every stay home to avoid cross contamination. If any one has these symptoms then they should call their doctors or be tested for corona. Those should also self quarantine, meaning stay isolated away from anyone else. If there is anything that you need to get for emergency purposes then you should wear a mask and stay 6 feet away from anyone you see. People should also wash their hands after everything they do and avoid touching their face. You should also build your immune system up with vitamins so that your body is able to fight off the virus. There are no known vaccines to cure corona yet but everyone is doing their best to slow the spread. This kind of pandemic or outbreak can cause many people to stress. The way to cope is to stay away from outlets that inform you about the virus, make sure you are taking care of your body, talk to people, and try some activities you’ve never tried before.

No one can trust the information they heard on social media. Social media is a world wide platform that lets any and every one post what they want, where they want. Therefore everyone is open to make their remarks and rumors. Social media is full of lies and people that are just trying to get attention. This means they would make up anything just for a crowd of people to believe. It is very hard for people to not believe everything they hear because stories can be switched and spread very fast. The only way to know if the things you hear is real is if it is on a news source, valid website, or if it is coming directly from the person who said it.

The topic I chose to research on is “is gun control an effective way to control crime rates?”  I chose this topic because I feel it would be interesting to research the effect that guns actually have on crime rates.  I also choose this topic because of personal experiences and living in New Orleans where people are killed almost everyday to guns.  Throughout this paper I will be digging deeper into the cause and effects of guns and the pros and cons of having them.  I will also be showing that even though gun violence is at an all time high, banning them will not control crime rates.  I plan on I will be telling the ways that gun control is not the only cause of crime.  I will research by first looking into the background knowledge of guns and its crime rate.  I will also be using google articles, peer reviewed journals, and Delgado libraries to back up my argument with evidence.  Gun control does not reduce crime because it is not just guns that kill it is the person who uses the gun.  It also does reduce crime because if the person never had access to the gun then they will not be able to kill.  This is not a topic that you can be biased about so I feel that it would be a good topic to debate and it is very debatable.  I will mainly be siding with the fact that gun control is not effective in controlling crime.   I will develop a strong and straight to the point thesis and hook.  Doing my annotated bibliography will help me have all of my evidence mapped out and my arguments set because it already alphabetize your sources with a description of what it is about.  I will then also find evidence for my counterargument and then a rebuttal.   While furthering my research I will look at crime charts to see how has the crime rate increased or decreased with the use of guns.

Some people argue if same-sex marriage should be legal or illegal. There are many pros and cons to the idea of same-sex marriage becoming legal. The opposing sides of this argument can most recently be traced back to religion or just norms. One side can argue that same-sex marriage messes up the tradition of a regular marriage (man and woman.) They can also argue that marriage was meant for having children, which people of the same sex can not do for reproduction purposes. Same-sex marriage also goes against God’s word, which is that it attempts to redefine the essence of the most precious relationship two human beings can share. This argument should be a rogerian argument because this problem should have been resolved a long time ago instead of setting laws for different states.

Although people have this view of same-sex marriage may have the pros for same-sex marriage. People are people, couples are couples, same sex or not so they should be afforded the same benefits as anyone else. Denying marriage to anyone and singling them out is a form of discrimination and created a kind of social system. Everyone is equal and should be able to express themselves without being shamed. Compromise can help solve this problem because people are getting killed for either being transgender or just being gay (hate crimes.) If the United States citizens can come to the conclusion that no matter what you like you should be able to be with who you want then there would be less killings. Regardless of sexual preference, love is universally the same.  Every person deserves to be treated fairly without regard to race, gender, or sexuality when it comes to marriage. People have expectations that they should have the right to decide who they want to marry without consequence, hate, or fear.

Making same sex marriage legal in the United States would maybe start a lead to all equality regarding race, gender, etc…  In addition, more children in foster care programs or orphanages would be allowed a safe and stable home with the increase of homosexual couples trying to start families. Allowing gay marriage could potentially unite society and families across the United States. Same-sex marriage will always be an argument over time. No matter what, there will be those people in the world who stick solely to the tradition and religion they were taught. Regardless of any disputes in the United States, equality should be the main goal of the United States people.

This week’s blog task is to compare the rhetorical analysis of my peers. A rhetorical analysis is a form of criticism or close reading that employs the principles of rhetoric to examine the interactions between a text, an author, and an audience. If you have no idea what compare and contrast means I am going to define it. Compare is defined as finding the similarities between two or more people or things. On the other hand, contrast is defined as finding the differences between two or more people or things.

While reading and analyzing my peers, I’ve noticed that their rhetorical styles (uses various techniques to impress upon the reader the meaning of a term, idea, or concept) are very similar and different.

When looking over the billboard analysis my class had to complete, all of my peers were strong in identifying the audience that is targeted. I noticed that some also do good with going in detail and dept about what they see and interpreting it. For example, one of my peers did a billboard that said “Thanks mommy for choosing life.” She stated that this was a pro-life billboard which was a good observation because from looking at the picture you can tell that it is targeting young mothers who consider abortions. Another analysis that stood out to me and differed was my peers’s billboard about Mcdonalds. In her analysis she used a slogan for Mcdonalds, “I’m loving it.” She also stated that their posters are posted in lower income parts of neighborhoods because she knows that it is a quick cheap meal. They know that they will get a good profit from them because mothers do not feel like cooking.

I notice that some of my peers do not appeal to logic that they know, such as ethos, pathos, and logos. They just start to go into details about what they see and what they can infer without says why it is credible, if it appeals to emotion, or reason. I also noticed that they do not follow the same route as me, some people just make inferences without knowing the background of the artist/writer. This can play a big factor in your analysis because since you know about them then you can later build on what their purpose may be.

My Example:

Major premise: All mammals are warm-blooded.
Minor premise: All dogs are mammals.
Conclusion: Therefore, all dogs are warm-blooded.

This syllogisms is sound because it is both valid and true. It is true because all mammals are warm-blooded (major premise) and all dogs are mammals (minor premise), which makes all dogs warm-blooded (conclusion.) This is valid because the conclusion follows logically from its premises. The major premise, minor premise, and conclusion are factual statements. Because of this the syllogism is true and valid, making it sound.

• The issue that Kendrick Lamar is focusing on in DNA is that everyone judges African Americans for who they are but do not known the realism. Some things we can not control, it is just in our DNA.
• Kendrick Lamar does take a clear stand on these issues because he states many things that are in his DNA. For example, in verse 1 he is telling us all the things he experienced and the things that are in his DNA. Going into the second verse, he is then taking up for African Americans by saying that they can not change who they are and telling all of his accomplishments.
• The thesis of this song is the way that the world views blackness in an unjust way but that is not the truth.
• Kendrick Lamar’s purpose for writing this song is to emphasize that somethings are just in a person’s DNA and there is nothing anyone can do to change it. Also, to emphasize the stereotypes inflicted upon the African American community.
• The audience that Kendrick Lamar is addressing is everyone outside of the African American community. In verse 2, he continually says “you” and “your.” In one line he says, “My DNA not for imitation, Your DNA an abomination.” When he says this he is telling the other cultures that his DNA is not to be imitated and their DNA is something of disgust.
• The argument he is making may appear in a popular periodical. It may appear in a popular periodical because injustice of the African American community is and has been a big problem nationally for many years and it is something everyone talks about.
• It seems as if Kendrick Lamar does not care if the readers will agree with his proposition because he is not trying to persuade anyone to believe anything. He is just saying the things he feels.
• Lamar does not include any evidence of his argument.
• Kendrick does not consider any opposing arguments.
• In the beginning it was confusing to interpret the things that Kendrick Lamar was saying.
• I understand the references that Kendrick Lamar makes. In the video, Kendrick is seen wearing a traditional Kung Fu outfit. He is mocking actor Don Cheadle (the interrogator) who was Kung Fu Kenny in the movie Rush Hour 2.
• I do agree with the points that he makes because a lot of people have racial biases towards African Americans just because of someone else’s bad decision.
• The views of Lamar agrees with previous things I have read.

This billboard is located on Orleans Avenue and Galvez Street in New Orleans, LA.

This bill board is basically saying that it has been a long time and housing is still bad for the citizens of New Orleans. The audience may be the government because they are the only ones who can change or do something about the terrible housing. The audience may be the government also because of the fact that the billboard was created by “Blights out.” Blights out is a campaign that takes over billboard for a year to expand the public’s political imaginary around land, housing, and debt. In the bottom right corner it says, “Blights Out for President,” which means that could be the possible target.

This campaign may have used these colors because white is known to shown innocence, purity, and new beginnings. Black also stands for confidence, and strength. Since the campaign is about expanding politics and making a change, they combined these colors to get the point across that this is important. The black and white can be to represent times back in the day with inequality and segregation. No one cares about the type of treatment that blacks get so it is not a big concern to them how we are living. There is a picture on the right of the photo of a house that say, “Decent housing fit for human beings.” “Decent housing” is outside of the house maybe to emphasize that it is the problem. Also on the left “50” is bigger than all of the other words on the billboard which could mean that it is important too. There is plenty empty space in these areas around the words, this could be so that whatever is written can be further emphasized.

This billboard may be placed in this area because it is a place where housing is bad for people. They know that the people in this area would agree with their campaign if they are living in the conditions. They one said, “Our messages will draw from conversations we’ve had with folks from the housing justice movement.” This means that they are very credible and experienced in this.

The artist appeal to authority(ethos) because they are a credible campaign and they are based on trying to let the world know issues going on. They establish their credibility by putting their website and the bottom of the billboard so viewers can visit their site.
